The Cornish Pasty: A Culinary Icon

No trip to Cornwall is complete without a genuine Cornish pasty. This D-shaped delight, with its golden crimped edge, is a hearty meal in a hand-held package. Historically, it was the perfect lunch for tin miners, who could hold the thick crust without contaminating the filling. Today, it's a protected product, meaning only pasties made in Cornwall to a specific recipe can carry the name. You can find authentic pasties at local bakeries throughout the area, including the nearby town of St Ives.

A Cream Tea with a View

The debate rages between Cornwall and Devon, but the Cornish way is always jam first, then a generous dollop of rich clotted cream. This simple pleasure is a must-try. Many local cafes and tea rooms offer this decadent treat, and you can also pick up fresh scones, strawberry jam, and authentic Cornish clotted cream from a local farm shop to enjoy in the comfort of your own holiday home.

If you're feel like a spot of baking you'll find a scone cutter in the kitchen of our holiday apartment.

From Sea to Plate: Fresh Cornish Seafood

With 80% of Cornwall surrounded by sea, it's no surprise that the seafood is fresh and delicious. From classic fish and chips to gourmet dishes of lobster, scallops, and crab, the coast provides an incredible bounty. The famous fishing town of Newlyn is a short drive away, and you can often find its catch on the menu at restaurants in Carbis Bay and St Ives. There's something about the crab sandwiches in Port Isaac though!

Sweet Treats and Local Brews

Cornwall’s culinary creativity extends beyond the savoury. For a fiery kick, try a Cornish fairing, a buttery ginger biscuit. And to wash it all down, be sure to sample some of the region’s award-winning beverages, from local ciders to real ales from the likes of St Ives Brewery, gins from Tarquin's and Limoncello from St Ives Liquor.
